if you were late for work but a good friend was in charge of payroll and offered to fix the problem to make it look like you was on time would it be wrong to accept?

and to add details. i have only been late to work 3 times at this job in over 2 years. the first was a huge snowstorm that had the whole bridge going to town closed. and i had to wait for tow trucks to pull apart a 6 car pile up. the second time i was only 3 minutes late, but that is still being late. and yesterday i forgot to turn on my alarm and was 25 minutes late, but i called before i was due to be there and explained that i would be late.

Short answer: yes, it's wrong. The friend in payroll is not running the company, and it's not his/her money that's involved here. But, it depends on how late, if you do this often, etc. I think there needs to be some common sense and some leeway given, but it very much depends on the circumstances. That's really something your supervisor should decide, not someone fooling around with the payroll records. That person could get fired for that sort of thing. It's fraud.

You should thank him, but at the same time ask him not to do that as this action will jeopardize his own reputation, and it may ultimately recoil on you.In the long run your friendship may turn sour or you will feel obliged and may have to do something to repay and this may again bring to do something which is not upright. In other words it will have a chain reaction.

Nope.

You have every right to bend the rules, if you like.

As long as you and your friend don't blah if you get caught and sacked on the spot.

I'm sure you'll find some way of making it up to your friend, since he or she will be far more heavily penalised than you will in the long run.

that's a good question. And yes, I think it would be wrong for that friend to keep doing it over and over; but if the tardiness was caused by something they couldn't control, then it would be okay to accept that one or two times.

Yes, of course it would. What would happen if at a later time this dishonest act was discovered? You and your friend could both be out of a job for lying.

Yes it would be wrong. If you are not late very often, once in a great while a late for work would be forgiven.

In strict terms-sure it is...but how much is this gonna affect the company you work for???
seems like a small thing-as long as its not happening ALL the TIME!

It would be wrong to accept, even though it would be tempting. You would also be compromising your friends job if you put them in that kind of position
