I am doing something that has never been done before - selling lines from one of my songs to raise enough money to promote my music. Anyone buying a line will get a share of my royalties, ultimately I just want to get my music heard. Now I already have well known companies on board, and interest from some UK Daytime shows, as well as Radio interest and BBC News interest, however the newspapers don't feel this is interesting enough for the general public. The problem is, that all the other things I have lined up (radio, tv etc) all rests on getting this story into a major Sunday or Daily paper!!
I know that this is a different story, I have done everything so far on my own, I'm not as of yet signed, I left my job to concentrate fully on this and I need some help!!! any suggestions would be greatly received.
I'm not sure i'm allowed to stick web addresses in, but if you type Jonathan Haselden into Google, my site and other site ownthissong will also come up. Many thanks. JH

good luck with it!!
Why don't you contact some of the weekly magazines. They love articles for a difference. A national paper might then pick it up.

Try calling the paper and ask for a 'human interest' editor, or editor of the Sunday arts section. They are usually looking for info; if you have a small local, ask for the AP stringer or talk to the managing editor him/her self and explain your prob. If you're any good at all, and I assume you are, or you wouldn't have gotten this far, they should be interested in promoting you for the chance - if nothing else - to say they knew you when!

Have you sent out press releases? That's the way to start promoting something in the media. Write one up and send it out to every media outlet you can find. Eventually one will probably pick it up. Do some research on the correct form for a press release (sometimes called a news release), that way it will appear more professional. Good luck!

Have you tried writing to the papers?

If not get the addresses and go pay them a visit, most of them are listed on the yell.com website and most I think you will find are based in London.

The Sun's address is
The Sun Newspaper
1, Virginia St, London, E1W 2XP
Tel: 020 7481 9992

I am sure if you check you will find the others!

Morning Star
52, Beachy Rd, London, E3 2NS
Tel: 020 8510 0815

Just for starters!

Good luck

Go to your local library and see if they have a copy of Willings Press Guide. This will give you a list of all the national and local papers, their circulation, contact details, etc.

If you buy a newspaper, you will see often see journalist's email addresses in the paper, they want people to get in touch with stories for them. Yours sounds great to me, as a journalist myself I think it's definitely newsworthy, but unfortunately i live in a different country! if i were you I'd email as many journalists in as many different papers as possible. Good luck!
