Hard to say. LA vs. NY? NY. SF vs. Boston? SF. Seattle vs. DC? Flip a coin. I guess the tie breaker would be it doesn't get insanely cold or snow on the West Coast.

I'm from the heartland, but I have lived on both coasts. In my humble opinion, the East Coast is far nicer than the West Coast, if for no other reason than the people. People on the East Coast are friendly and polite and easy to get along with. Where as the people on the West Coast, if they speak English (and that's a big if), are predominately a bunch of self absorbed overly pretentious snobs. But home is where the heart is, and for now, that's in God's county, America's heartland.

I can't help you, I am VERY biased and a full on East Coast girl. The only area I like in the West is Las Vegas.
As for the East, there is no place better than New York, but if thats too fast for you, you can visit Washington D.C. or Philadelphia(my personal favorite).

There are some nice parts of the west coast but as a whole, the east coast is the winner.

The east coast wins that battle hands-down for one reason: the state of Cali-f**ked up-fornia. WAY too expensive to live there, the total hypocrisy about environmentalism out there (they'll let you off the hook for bad environmental stewardship if you pay them enough), the air of superiority from the people who live there -- they're only slightly less obnoxious than the French -- and the fact that the vast majority of them are so very shallow (all they care about is having the perfect body, a significant other with the perfect body, more money, the house in Malibu with two overpriced poseur-mobiles in the garage, and being able to drop names of all the "famous" and "influential" people they know). People on the east coast are much more real...

If I have to pick one of those though, I'd choose the East Coast over the West Coast any day.

I would say the west. San Francisco is very arguably the most beautiful and coolest (as in groovy) city in the US. San Diego and Seattle are nice too. But the best thing about the west is the geography. The Grand Canyon, the Sierras, Yosemite, the Rockies, Yellowstone...from Arizona to Alaska, from the Pacific waters to Denver...wonderland!

Why else would most people you meet here be from the East Coast?
