It is not really important to practice what our elders do.They r more experienced than us and have a broader outlook of what the world is all about. In ur case u r asking about religious practices.ok.we follow the religion which our parents do.after birth till we reach a point of time or can say till we gain understanding of things around us we do the same things as our elders do...at that time what our elders do is correct but now we think what our elders do is not correct..Y??u can do what u wish to but it is not always correct b'coz v dont have the knowledge about the worldly difficulties in doing so..thus for safety 4m all difficulties and problems its safe to follow what our elders do especially in case of religious practices...it now depends on u...

Because when you get to be an elder and truly believe in what your faith teaches you, then you will be able to pass it on to the youth of the day.
I'm sure that the elders aren't imposing their practices on you to be mean. They only want you to have a sufficient grounding in the religion so when you reach an age where you can decide for yourself, you will choose the path they laid out for you. A little discipline goes a long way in building character. In short, they love you and want what they think is best for you.
Now listen to your mom and dad and be happy that someone cares enough to take the time to look out for you.
Good luck and may your God bless you.

We don't have to, but we do because of lack of knowledge. In many cases a younger feel his elders are right. But this is not the good way to see things, we must try to find out whether they are right before following them.
As far as religion is concerned, it should come from heart. Following a religion without knowing (Proper knowledge) it, is like walking on a dark road you don't even know where are you heading.

I believe that for many, this is akin to wearing the clothes that our elders (society) dictate is acceptable wear. It's a matter of conditioning.
- But, just as most of us go through a period of rebellion (teenage yrs) and questioning the status quo about many things, we also have periods in life when we are inclined to really decide whether we will just go along (because it was 'good enough' for the elders) or will pursue our own Truth.
That's what I believe. :-)

Accept all the wonderful and constructive practices of our elders and reject all the negative and useless parts.
Spirituality blossoms when it becomes a personal manifestation. Nothing wrong with being guided and inspired by the past beliefs, but it's how you custumize it to fit within your frame work that really matters and becomes enriching

I don't think children should have to practice the same as their elders. I think parents should give their children the right to choose their own path. Parents would be giving their child the right to choose what fits them best without pressuring them to believe, act, and commit to this or that. Let the child make up their own mind, let them think, let them reason, let them rationalize, and come up with their own conclusions through experience.

because it is easy to copy than to invent and waste time! Unless you are prepared to experience the religious truth for which determination and will to struggle is required, it is better to follow what elders say but use your own intelligence which you are gifted by the creater, to understand good and bad!

Even when the elders were young, this same thought should have got in their mind too.......but wat happen today they are doing their duties in rightful manner......if u don't want to follow them.....then its ur right but jus give a thought when u become elder and ur children comes to u and ask "why we are not religious''.......then u vil have to suffer on tat day.......so its better to follow our elders in a derogratory manner and get a good name in the future.

Not always.
But usually the elders put their best foot forward in front of their juniors.Elders carry the culture ( Sanskars) through what they do. They have attained maturity in life.
They need to be emulated.
