The role of a student is to soak up as much knowledge as possible in order to make themselves more valuable to an employer in the future. The employer could be a company or themselves. The more education and drive that you have the better off you will be.
If you don't get a good education you generally end up in a dead end job taking whatever someone is willing to pay for your lack of skills.

First of all let us be very clear - why does a student goes to the school? The answr is obvious - to learn, study and be educated, and by the way inculcate in himself good manners and behavior. O of thether than these he has no role to play. Let a student be a student
Spreading awareness of what? If the School comes up with a project, let the student first make himself thorough with the topic and seek the guidance of the teachers. Let the student then come up with his own version. The teachers would help him enact the skit, going along with the student's version or modifying it. The student himself, thus, can become aware of the topic.

Role of students in school should concentrate on what students could do to be the leaders of their countries. Examples of famous personalities like Lal Bahadur Shastri, Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi to name a few could be mentioned and their role as a student emphasized and how their leadership quality helped them to be the leaders of the country could be elaborated.
On the awareness programme, concentration should be on the awareness of what is happening in the country and outside it. In an awareness programme in Gulbarga in Karnataka, children were given Jatropha seedlings to be planted which can substitute as an alternative fuel for vehicles.
The Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) is a program organised by the DEPARTMENT OF FIRE SERVICES, MASSACHUSETTS Eastern MA as a state initiative to provide resources to local fire departments to conduct fire and life safety education programs in schools. The mission is to enable students to recognize the dangers of fire and more specifically the fire hazards tobacco products pose.

They join clubs. At my school they just put up posters without permission. The teachers really don't care. Or they go on strike.
