My employer recently has been trying to move people around within the company. If the employee refuses to accept the new position (that demands more hours) they are demoted and forced to take a pay cut of up to $15,000 per year in some cases.

This does not seem legal and I was wondering if anyone knew the law that protects the employee against this stuff.

It's Republican America. Workers have no rights and pretty much your boss can do whatever he wants.

I lost a job of ten years standing though my work was excellent, simply because I asked for a raise after he doubled by workload.

According to the work agreement I signed with him, he had to give me notice. He gave me none. He verbally agreed to give me a letter of recommendation. He took six months to do so and when people call he bad mouths me.

He owes me fifteen thousand dollars for my portion of a profit sharing plan. I will have to drag him to court to win it, and other workers in my position tell me he he has bought the judge.

It's the new America. You have to love it. The people with the most money come first. It will be Soylent Green in our lifetimes.

Sorry to say, but employers actually have the law behind them. As long as they pay you over minimum wage, and you don't have a solid contract that says otherwise, nobody can even seriously question their motives for doing it. Your only choices are to either accept the new position, find another somewhere else, or just buck up and take it...

Are you under contract? If not, then the company is not required to provide you with any specific position OR salary. They are well within their rights to restructure the company and with that, compensation and hours.

Yes it is legal. The alternative that your employer has is to cut positions and lay them off.

ouch..yes they can though. At least in Texas an employer can do what they want, up to and including firing you for no reason what so ever.
