I'm adopted. See, my parents are the coolest. They knew it would be a very very bad idea for me to "find out" ever.... so they made sure I knew it all along. I knew that just like I knew that I was a girl, same kind of thing. My baby book is an adopted kid baby book. That's the best way to do it.
My adopted mother also encouraged me several times that if I wanted to hunt down my biological mother, to remember that she would NOT feel threatened or anything... and when I decided to do that, she didn't. She was very helpful in finding her. And the first time they met, my adopted mother (who is not a touchy feely person) hugged and hugged my biological mother. My biological mother had just been young and unable to take care of me. She even sent a letter with me, thanking my parents in advance for taking care of her baby. It was just about as good a situation as could possibly be. I was very lucky and blessed.

My husband is adopted. He was 3 when he was adopted and his parents told him when he was 8. It didn't effect him at all because he knew that he had a couple who loved him very much. He found out that social services took him away from his real mother due to the fact that she abused and neglected him. He has no intention of finding his birth mother.

Ward of the government but never adopted. My parents wouldn't give up rights. I was a foster kid since I was a baby. In and out of homes and then permanantly taken at 6.

My neighbour was adopted at 13 - cause her mum died
I suppose you deal with the situation as it arrives and takes a huge amount of strength particularly for teenagers that know and remember their parents.
She has a great relationship with her adopted parents - and has been with them for over 14 yrs now

I was adopted when I was 10 years old. I stood in court and told the judge my adoptive parents were good people and I wanted to stay with them. It was a big relief knowing I wouldn't live in foster homes until I was 18.

No. But my daughter is. She has always known as she was 2 when we got her and 5 when we finally got to adopt her. She got to "re" meet her birth mom this summer. It's all good.

yes,my folks talked to me about it when I was 7 & again when I was 12..
They made me feel special so I didn't mind it,I was curious in later years about my biological Mother,(& a little bit about my Father)still am, but only as far as looks go..My folks didn't know who she was...I was raised in Ks.(open records) so at 18 I did get my adoption birth certificate so i do know her age & name etc..but I have never attempted to contact or find her..not so sure I want to..I had a great life with loving parents,I am happy with that for now..

Yes I am. My parents told me as soon as I was old enough to understand what it meant. Don't remember what age, but it was before I started Kindergarten. I have always been absolutely fine with it and I'm an old fart now! LOL
