You will just get bad feedback or they will file a nonpaying bidder claim against you, but nothing happens for just 1 time. I'd try to work it out with the seller but if he does not let you retract the bid I wouldn't worry about it.

All laws that pertain to day to day commerce also cover e-commerce.
Write to the vendor and let him know you don't want the product and will bot be paying for it.. I guarantee he won't ship it.
If he already has, then send it back. Most vendors have a return policy.
By doing either of these things, the worst that will happen is a bad review by this one person.
It's no big deal so don't go losing sleep over it.
Good luck.

Send the seller an e-mail asking them to cancel your bid.
The seller gets charged money when an item sells ... whether you pay or not. It's a rotten thing to do to someone. Don't bid unless you are serious about paying.

The seller gives you a "red warning".
If you have accumulated 3 of these warnings from 3 different sellers, then you get banned from Ebay Inc.

You just won't get the item, and you may get begative feedback form the seller, which won't look good for you. At least give the seller a good reason, then maybe you won't get the bad feedback.

It shouldn't go that far unless you bid on something that costs over $1,000. They will put negative feedback against your name and that is usually all they do.
