If i install Windows XP on my comp, it starts with a default Windows Classic theme, with no XP theme option. 2 out of 3 CDs show me a fatal error while installing, and the one that installs does not install Service pack2 from my disc.

The same discs which show me a fatal error work fine on my friends' system.
Linux also installs with some or the other error.

I have checked my RAMs, they are brand new
Hard disk brand new.
VGA card, have checked by even removing it from my motherboard.

Just cant get anything working on my comp.

Somebody help. I cant figure out whats wrong.
Config:
AMD 64-bit Athlon 2800+
nVidia GeForce FX5200
512 MB RAM
80 GB HDD

I have a PC Desktop, not laptop.

One thing i did not mention:
I had updated my BIOS about 10 months back after which i havent tried to install an OS, but this new BIOS is probably the wrong one cuz everytime i start my PC, it simply throws out my CDROM door. If i close if, it throws it out again. Does it twice.
Its a screwed up BIOS.

Try doing an fdisk and format before doing a reinstall of XP. If that does not work, check to see if there is an update to the BIOS of the machine.
