I've been with 3 for 8 months now and can't fault them. I've had contracts on all the main networks and they offer excellent value for money, especially if you only want a 12 month contract. It seems you can only get good deals on the other networks if you take out an 18 month contract. Their 3G coverage is better than any other network as is their content. People who slag 3 off for having poor coverage haven't got a clue. At the end of the day if you're not in a 3 coverage area you automatically switch over to o2 (changing to Orange). My previous phone was with o2. My coverage with 3 is much better. Makes sense really seeing as you have the coverage of both networks with 3.
There used to be problems with some of the older handsets on 3, but the latest handsets are fine. I get 300 mins, 1000 texts, 50 mms, 50 video mins and 5 pounds of free downloads each month ( double mins and texts for first 3 months) for 30 quid a month.. On same 18 month tariff you get double mins & texts for first 6 months as well as half price line rental. I got Nokia N73 for free on this tariff.
Generally three, o2, vodafone & orange have pretty much the same coverage. T-mobile is not as good.
One annoying thing with o2 is that you can not receive delivery reports for texts for some strange reason ! I would recommend either three or Orange !

OK
1)stay away from cashback deals,99p is too low, chances are you will now pay that money as you will be chasing that,O2 and 3 will not deal with that it has nothing to with them
2)88% coverage is 3 and where is doesn't cover it falls back on O2 which 99% coverage
3)The 3 network does some really impressive thing, like you can watch live TV,downside is the customer service, however you go into a 3 shop, most problems can be sorted, stay away from the nokia 6280,the phone is rubbish. Also 3 do really good deals and are quite cheap in comparsion to other networks
4)O2 is a good network,it reliable,can be expensive,Customer service is ok

3 do good deals but the network is rubbish. There are so many places in the UK you get poor or no 3 reception. Their customer service is dire, if you have any problems you'll never get them resolved. My friend has waited over a year for her £50 cashback she was promised when she went over to 3.
02 also have quite a poor network, but I've no idea of their cutomer service.
I absolutely hate Vodafone, but when I broke my leg on a Scottish mountain Vodafone was the only network that had a signal. My friends had Orange and O2 and no signal on either. If i hadn't had Vodafone I'd still be up that damned mountain now. So much as I hate Vodafone the network was there when I needed it.

Do not sign up with 3. Here are a couple of examples of what they managed to do to be over the 2 year period I was with them:
- My phone broke 6 times in 2 months. They eventually agreed to give me a 'new' phone. They lied...I got somebody else's handset with video clips of his gf and her phone number still stored on it.
- They got my bill wrong on at least 4 occasions.
- When I ordered my upgrade.....they sent it to my old house 60 miles away. They then told me to report it to the police as fraud. The police told me I would be arested for Fraud if I attempted to do this. So I had to make a 120 mile round trip to collect the phone with no reimbursement or compensation from 3.
- They cancelled my insurance without telling me. So when my upgrade broke I was left phoneless for 2 months and still had to pay the line rental.
I complained at the end of the term and they agreed to terminate the contract early. Turns out they still tried to charge me..I now have a black mark on my credit rating because of them failing to honour this agreement. I moved house anyway and i'm a student so it doesn't matter that much...but that's not my point !
Not to mention the rude and incompetent staff they employ in their call centres. They cannot speak english...hang up on you if they don't understand your query and also tell you to speak better english...
I could tell you more but I hope you understand....do not sign with 3 !!!!!!!!
