Some of my coworkers seem to be disgruntled, and I'd like to reverse the process. How do you gruntle someone?

Just be nice to them I guess, even though that's no gurantee. Back in 1990 we had a co-worker that kept to himself. Never bothered anyone and was always quiet. You can probably see where the story is going.

Regardless as to how nice I was to this guy (gruntling him persay) it didn't change the fact that he decided to call in sick one day, only to show up a couple of hours later with a sawed-off shotgun and a pistol. He was confronted outside by some of his closest friends who asked him what he was doing.... he said "I'm going to kill Joe, John, Jim and Jack" (names have been changed to blah blah blah).... my name was one of those given. Luckily for us these friends talked him into going home. He was fired and asked never to return. A few months later he was ran over... twice... and killed.

So.... there's no gruntling anyone because if they're disgruntled it's a mental issue.

Think of positive things about your job. When people start to get negative don't encourage the negativity. Bring up your positive points.

Come up with a project people in your job can do together. For example, create a t-shirt for your work place and sell them. Use the money from the sales for a party or weekend get together.

Do things with your co-workers outside of work. Go to a happy hour. Do a walk for charity. Create more of a family environment besides just the place you work at.

This one sounds cheesy but it does work...once a month recognize and celebrate your co-workers birthdays. Get a cake, ice cream, party hats, etc for the people born on that month.

It is probably easier to get them to leave and to get your boss to hire people who are a little more fun. But the other possibility is that your boss is the problem.

Have you thought about changing jobs? There are lots of people who like their jobs. Perhaps you can find them.

Treat them to an office lunch or outing.
