Whatever you gun owners say, guns do make killing people easier. That's what they are for after all. A lack of recognition of this fact just makes me question the intelligence of some people.

And there are plenty of countries that have strict gun laws and unarmed police. Many of these countries do not have a problem with a lot of gun crime. So you should not presume that making guns illegal will just put them in the hands of the criminals.

I don't really have any problems with hunting or farmers using guns to protect their livestock from predators, but why would you need a gun for any other reason? Self defence is not a good enough excuse either. Just get rid of them.

And anyway, the rest of the world thinks we Americans are just a bunch of bible-thumping gun-toating rednecks. Lets prove them wrong and make handguns illegal (sort out the the whole Christian Fundamentalism in some other thread).

You can give me a thumbs down, but you know I'm right.

Okay I'm done with my rant.....

It is a sad truth that human's who are intent to kill other human beings often choose to use the firearm to do it. Richard Speck, who slashed and stabbed 8 nurses to death, in one dormitory in the 60's probably would have more easily gotten a firearm then than now. These sick incidents are loathed by everyone, including those among you that own guns, use them responsibly, and for whom directing them at someone else (other than to protect ourselves or family ) would never cross our minds. Over 160 million Americans own firearms without issue or incident. It is unfortunate that these incidents make people want to knee jerk "solutions" that largely only will affect those 160 million people that already own and use firearms responsibly. No one advocated banning Knives after Speck did his dirty deed, nor advocated banning rope or knives after Sharon Tate and her friends were butchered by the Manson Family. We probably need to spend more time figuring out what it is about society that cause outbursts like this in the first place. The Hollywood crowd are always the first to cry for increased gun control, but they are in fact the very root of some of this with the violence and gore they portray on the movie screens in the name of the almighty dollar. The sick bastard that knows he can do whatever, using a whatever weapon he chooses, kill himself, so he does not have to face consequences, and get that Warholian 15 minutes of fame, is partly caused by how the media covers these incidents. This last guy was clearly a sick copy cat.....emboldened by all the media coverage of the Colorado incident.

If those trigger happy people, didn't have those guns, the guns wouldn't go off. So true that people kill people, but it's the guns that facilitate more frequent and fatal attacks. Fist fights usually don't kill poeple, it's when the guns are involved that people end up dead with much greater frequency. School shootings have replaced fist fights. Guns are the reason more people kill and are killed.
The bulletts and guns aren't jumping out of closts and killing people, true. But the people who are doing the killing become a million times more lethal with a gun than if they didn't have access to one.

The gun doesn't just jump up and kill on it's own. A person for what ever reason uses the gun to shoot. I get your underlying argument, if we outlawed guns then people couldn't get shot. While this is true, we still can't unlearn the technology to make a gun. At that point only the bad guys would make and use guns, and we honest and innocent people would make great targets.

I've read this before. If I can blame the gun itself for murder, then I can blame my pencil for spelling mistakes.

Agree with you 100% dude,

GUNS KILL PEOPLE,, its far easier to pull a trigger and BAM!
than to have to continually beat someone to death with a blunt object, hence why there are so many people who plead 'I didnt MEAN to do it' if that was a baseball bat, after the first hit, youd stop and the guy would have lived.... A gun is TERMINAL...

But you'll always get NRA Nuts Screaming for gun rights....

THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS ACTUALLY STATES,

Individuals have the right to bear arms in an ORGANISED MILITA to defend The State. Not for each individual to have an Uzi and walk the streets ... Look it up......

If I had nothing better to do I could make up millions of statements more stupid than this one.
Sure, guns don't go off by themselves. People are to blame but, since you can't control everything that people do I believe we (i.e. governments) should control what they can to reduce murder.
There are laws and penalties to make cars safer and lower vehicle speeds to reduce road deaths. There should be stricter laws and penalties to reduce the availability of guns.

Actually the statement is correct. The gun doesn't jump out of the closet and shoot someone. A person has to pull the trigger.

LOL, just read a lot of the statements made by our politicians and you will have your answer. If someone murders another with a gun, I wonder why it is the person who is tried for murder, manslaughter, etc., and not the gun?
