I've tried vitamins; EPA; acupuncture; counselling; and diet.

Every time i go back to using antidepressants.

I think it depends on how depressed you are.

There is no doubt that, for many of the people who are on antidepressants, antidepressants are at least benign and probably do at least some good.

Some people report sexual side effect (no sex drive) as well as some other symptoms. As with all meds, it is best if you don't have to take them, but if the benefits outweight the side-effects (and they seem to for 30 million Americans) then you need to explore taking them.

My concern is that people use antidepressants as a way to avoid making life changes that would address the pain. In other words, the way that most of us "grow up" (mature, self-actualize, etc) is that we see things in our life that are causing us pain and we fix them. In other words, sometimes we need a little pain to move to motivate us to do the right things.

(I know that someone on anti-depressants will flame me for that last paragraph. For you, let me remind you that depression can come from emotional reasons, chemical reasons, or both. Antidepressants fix the chemicals, and buy some sanity while you address any emotional issues, but they are NOT a substitute for therapy or making healty lifestyle decisions).

I think Tom Cruise is a moron, in denial, and quite uneducated. That being said . . . . antidepressants help many people. Some people cannot tolerate them and should look for alternative means of therapy. Combinations of drug and non-drug therapy should be explored with an open mind.

Who cares what Tom Cruise thinks. lol. Doctors or Psychiatrists would have more of a credible opinion on this. Last time I checked Tom Cruise along with other actors are people who make a living pretending to be other people, maybe they need to get their heads checked out. lol.
