I loved both of them, they both had the same director. but they are both totally different stories; one is about a super power & drug up
teen gone wild, and the other a boy who has his father's creation that everyone wants. But aside of that which did you like better? I liked Steamboy, not to much fight, but a lot of action and suspense.

I think Steamboy was easier to follow and watch multiple times, but Akira had a better story. They both had amazing graphics and were very original. Overall, if I had to own just one I'd have to pick Steamboy. It had better graphics overall and was easier to watch with friends. Most of my friends would get confused and not watch Akira. I love them both though!

If I'm correct they were done by the same guy, Steamboy didn't have as much of a lasting impact as Akira. It was more of a sleeper film, Steamboy wasn't bad but it sure wasn't Akira. I could be partial to Akira because it was the first film that got me into anime, but I preferred it because it was something I could relate to. Akira connected to me on a personal level because the story revolved around emotions, such as envy, love and hate.

I liked more Akira. The story trapped me from the beginning until the end.
I sure enjoy Steamboy but that's it, it didn't last one minute in my mind after the end. In the other hand Akira has a very good and classy story (battle between the good and evil), and I like the incredible scenes.

I liked Akira better than Steamboy. The style of animation is similar but I think Akira had a better storyline.

Also, I enjoyed the background music in Akira.

Akira had more impact directly towards me than any other movie I've ever seen in my 18years of life, It was just outstanding creativity and fast paced cyberpunk era which was just totally outstanding, steamboy on the otherhand deals with a specific genre which is called "steampunk" which was less spectacular than Akira to me personally, however I do like the aspect of it since I'm a great fan of Escaflowne....

I actually thought both were kind of noisy and annoying. Akira;s story was better though. Steamboy, though it had a great motiff, it just wandered as a story, kind of here kind of there, with very little sense. I dont hoenstly think the Japanese can tell a tight western style story. They get lost in the details.

Akira was very, very, good- a classic for it's time. Although I insist that it's become overrated as time goes by. It wasn't perfect by any means, but remains a must-see.

Steamboy was a grueling trial of endurance. I didn't like it all that much. It's just in the same category of other great animated films, except perhaps in terms of the technical aspects of animation. The story lost steam (pardon the pun) at too many junctures.

Winner: Akira!

i agree that akira has deffinately been given a better review than it deserves. it did wonders for anime, but it was very hard to follow at times and in the end i didn't understand what had happend (my husband can't figure why i'm confused - but then he understands "The Wall" stone cold sober). i liked steamboy much better. far easier to follow the plot and it was very well done. i think the plot was more interesting also.

by the way - have you seen "memories" yet? that's him too.
