NO. You'd better check the laws in TX either online or with your lawyer. It is against the law to write bad checks but you must follow procedure to collect. First, call the person and ask him/her to pay in cash in exchange for the check. If you cannot contact the person, I hope you got the driver license number. With this, you can take him/her to small claims court. However, even though a judge will rule in your favor, its no assurance that the debtor will pay. You might have to write it off as a loss. Good Luck.

I'm not sure about TX but in Virginia you can't repo the vehicle from a bad check.

You can only repo it if you have the title and driver didn't make payment.

If payment isn't in full then you shouldn't release the vehicle. Then if person doesn't come back for certain period of time like a year then you could get a mechanic lien title.

only thing you could do now is small claim court.

Best thing now is not to accept checks anymore.

I can only tell you how I handled this.
I spotted the car at a local watering hole, so I went in and told the guy that the part for his car finally came in, and to stop by in the AM. And that he had already paid for it , so there would be no charge.
Next morning as soon as he drove onto my lot,,, his car was in storage @ $50 a day until the bill was satisfied.

Not unless they bought the car from you. Other than that... no, because you don't own it.
