Just answered this for another Q/ - oil of eucalyptus is the solvent for chewing gum - I have three kids and this was one of the most useful bits of information I ever found! It won't harm skin hair or clothing so will be fine on a window - its poisonous if swallowed in any quantity so keep out of reach of children. For the record it will also remove the marks you get left from the ink from plastic bags - you know when the bread bag touches the toaster and leaves the print behind.

Olive oil! Soak a square of kitchen roll in olive oil, and massage it all round the putty/gum. You'll find that it will slip right off the pane. This also works beautifully for removing sticky labels from glass.

Use an icecube or icepack to freeze the chewing gum. It will become brittle when frozen and you will then be able to chip it off with a knife. If not, there is also a product on the market called 'goo gone' which is a special form of detergent which should get rid of it for you
Hope this helps :D

chewing gum is one thing...wd 40
putty which is properly called glazing, if you are speaking of the stuff holding the glass in the frame, is removed professionally with a heatgun and small putty knife. Linseed oil is the solvent NOT olive oil although that too may work just as corn or soy or any vegetable oil......
However it IS linseed oil in the base of glazing compound.

Scrape off as much as you can with a scraper and use a cleaner to remove the residue. A product called "Goo-Gone" works great. Or, an "orange" cleaner. They have citrus oil. Any citrus around the house? Squeeze some of the peel on the spot and rub it in.
