15th April 1989 FA cup semi final between Liverpool & Nottingham Forest. The game had just kicked off and more & more fans were still being let in. in those days the grounds still had fencing around the pitchside, so as more fans were coming in the ones at the front were slowly being crushed. The side of the fencing had gates but the police and stewards on duty refused to open them fearing a riot, and not realising what was happening.Once the authorities knew what was happening they finally tried to help but for some it was already to late. The game was abandonded after a short time{something like ten minutes} the Nottingham Forest fans and Liverpool fans worked together to try and help those in need. They used advertising boards as streachers and took them to be traeted. Some of the media at the time blamed the Liverpool fans, but it wasn't their fault. If those in authority on the day had listened to those being crushed sooner rather than later then a lot more lives would have been saved

since the tragic disaster, Liverpool fans will always remember this day as a mark of respect for those who died & there is also a minute silence being observed before kick-off if there is any matches played on 15 April every year.
