He should confess. Your lies will always come out eventually.

He could walk into the bosses office with a cheque or the cash and say he filled up his girlfriends car and used the card by mistake and been honest he wants to pay the money himself and hope it won't go against him, grovel, apologise and hopefully his boss will overlook it this time.

was this a one time event or multiple times. I dont know how they do check ups on these card things but if they routinely check the card use, it would be wise to confess. If this was a one time event, report ASAP and say that it was an emergency use and that he will pay the company back. Dont wait too long after using it for GF car.

I think he grabbed the wrong credit card out of his wallet either way.

If he wants to confess, I'd suggest approaching it as a question... Boss I think I accidently used the wrong credit card to fill my GFs car, could you possibly check the bill?

Heck what do I know...

Tell the boss. Hopefully it was a matter of necessity, if he loses his job a a result, he will have learned something.

Honesty is the best policy..he could just say he accidentally used the wrong card and pay for the gas.

I would approach the boss and have check in hand to pay and learn from there. In my opinion, it was stealing.

Your..."friend"...should suck it up and tell the boss...It'll be hard, but his boss will respect him in the long run for being honest....It'll also show the company that you ..er' he can be trusted...It shows great character in admitting your mistakes...
