It's not so much that girls cannot do things boys can. If you are referring to China, it's because the government limits families to one child each. Since the males traditionally support their parents in old age, the parents opt for a son. Daughters marry & then take care of their husband's parents. India is another example of where that is true. Additionally, a son assures that the family name is continued.

Male child was considered to earn for the family and also take care of d parents in their old age, but it is proving to b very wrong in todays time. Male child if on right track does good studies and starts earning, soon wants to start living seperate to enjoy what he is earning in his own special ways. Girls no doubt r more caring towards parents in their needs than boys. The only diff comes when d girl gets married somewhere far.Girls r in no way less than boys, they earn as well as manage d house and kids. Having a son who does not care for d parents is more pinching than not to have one. So d girl child should b allowed to take birth. Sex detection should b a serious crime which should b heavily punishable.

Girls can do everything that guys can do.
Actually the system of Dowry and Costly marriages of daughters which have to be born by parents in India which is the cause of so many female abortions.
I have heard that Punjabi families spend about 20 lakh Rs average on the marriage of their daughters.
If we can do away with the system than female infanticide and abortions will be stopped.

PARENTS DO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE MALE CHILD FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT THEY EXPECT THEIR SON TO TAKE CARE OF THEM IN OLD AGE;; WHERE AS THE GIRL WILL BE MARRIED AND GO TO HER IN LAWS ..BUT THIS TREND WILL CHANGE SOON BECOZ WOMEN ARE PROVING TO BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR PARENTS IN OLD AGE THAN MEN,,,ALSO WOMEN ARE WORKING TOO AND ARE BREAD EARNERS TOO....SO DEAR TANVIR DON'T MISS THE SILVER LINING IN THE DARK CLOUD..AND BE HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE A YOUNGER BROTHER ...FOR WHICH SO MANY GIRLS CRAVE AND DON'T HAVE A BROTHER...

its not that
girl are not best
some girls are better than boys
sometimes
its the culture or the religion
in some country girl mostly don't work outside only at home they work. except they can be a teacher or a baby doctor or a nurse
that is how it is in india (in my country)
and some times that is in the religion the same thing happen
like my religion (islam)
and that is why most people want boys
so they can work and earn money for their parents
and their parents

In the dark ages people did bury their daughters alive etc. because boys were more of an asset and they couldn't afford to raise girls who would just go to another family at time of marriage anyway.
These days it's just not like that (I hope), and yes girls contribute more to this world now.
I think families still lean toward desire for boys, to carry on the family and name. Again, most daughters go away to their in-laws eventually.

why do ppl go for male child and not female?
First males are easier to dress. Males money-wise are much cheaper (no sweet sixteen) at wedding time something males are cheaper, Parents don't have to put up with mood swings that are part of been a female(menstrual cramps).is there anything that girls can't do but boys can? Yes peeing standing up and writing long names on the snow.

Boys can write their name in the snow.
;-)
But seriously -- in some countries (China, for instance), boy are preferred because (1) they'll carry on the family name, and (2) they'll be better able to provide for the parents when they're older.
I myself was hoping for a little girl when my wife was pregnant -- I worried that any son of mine would end up being too much of a "nerd"; but things turned out just fine -- he loves books and learning just as I do, but he also enjoys playing soccer and running around outdoors as well....

It is an Indian attitude.
My brother has two girls but no boys and we all love them very much.
My friend has three girls but no boys and they lack no love and care anyway.
Do you know in one Indian state, Kerala, females out number males?
Dignity of life is not on the basis of gender, but on our out look.
Dear sis, stand up against abortion.
Let every life live to the fullest!

For any parents from boys they can gain only a short run gains and they do forget that in a long run only girls can provide an eternal, true and genuine love and effect ion to their parents. Its only a question of time till the boys reveals himself ( I don't mean all boys ) but to a majority.
