At this time of year they are more active during the day than normal as they need to feed so they have stocks of fat to survive hibernation

Whilst taking my dogs walking i have seen quite a few hedgehogs during day-time. Have to admit i see more at nigh-time, we have two hedgehogs grunting just below our window at night, they are quite noisy . They eat my bird-food and even had one eating dog-biscuits from the bag one evening. I just love them, think they are so cute. Damn if only they would spend more time eating the slugs.

Who knows why.. They are so cute.. I used to have two when I lived in Africa... Eventually.. when I fed the dog, the hedgehog, the duck, the dog would all eat at the same time out of the same dish... we called them (there) porcupic.. (pork you pick) because they resemble a porcupine

hedgehogs are more active at night, but you can alter their sleeping habits to wake up early in the evening or to stay up later in the morning. I had a pet hedgie and had to wake him up early so we could play.
