In the first instance you should get solicitor to help you. The local county court can send you forms to fill in, and after completion take them back. You will need to make an appointment for the return. However, you may not need to go bankrupt. Get free advice from the Consumer Credit Counselling Service. Their freephone number is; 0800 138 1111. They will give you help and advice, and it's confidential. Good luck, and remember, you are not alone with financial problems.

You don't. What you do is go talk to a lawyer, go over all your financials, file and then a judge decides if you are BK or not. Be aware that with the new laws it's very possible that you will still have to pay back most/all of your debt and your credit will still be screwed. You should try to find another route first.
Good luck!

go to the county court and declare yourself bankrupt pay the fee and sit before the judge done.
then you visit a liquidator and he will want to know what assets you have ie house car etc and wages so think before you do it(bit of advice if your married and all debts are in your name well and good but joint the debtor can chase the spouse also the house if in joint names get a estate agent to underprice the house otherwise your wife will after find a fortune to keep it .
