In order to lose weight I do some jogging and other exercises in the afternoon. I also need to reduce stress so I am thinking about doing pranayama. But is it advisable to do both similtaneously?

Pranayama and jogging are not compatible.
However, being conscious of your breathing, and controlling it can be of benefit.
First, ensure that you inhale through your nose.
Then find a jogging pace which doesn't get you out of breath, so that you can inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a pace, and then exhale for the same time that you inhaled, then hold a second.
This regular breathing, while not complete pranayame, can be of benefit. This is what I do when jogging and I find that it helps me to keep a regular pace, and makes me feel better.

No. The amound of controlneeded to properly execute pranayama exercises are not compatable with jogging or any physical exercise, expeically at the beginning of the breathing exercises. Do them at different times of the day. I find that, for me, the best time for pranayama is early in the morning, just after I wake up, then again at the end of the day, about an hour or so before I go to bed. I both sleep better and find myself more relaxed during the day. Course I've been doing that for 30 years...so...

Well some joggers hold free weights

wait a second not sure what pranayama is....

ok I checked wikepedia and it sounds similar to something I did while weight lifting.

Start by practicing it separately, I never went after the spiritual aspects of it so much; but deep breathing is an excellent thing, in and of itself.

If your more of a marathoner than a sprinter then it would be excellent.

Also useful to prevent that pain in your side.
~Not that you have that, it's just a common thing for runners to experience that pain where you put the heel of your hand to your side and try to slow down your breathing.

pranayam is best done empty stomach and (if possible) in open air, preferrably a garden so as to gain maximum benefit from the breathing part of pranayam.
Otherwise both can be done side by side, personally some people feel very energized after pranayam while others might feel tired. So if u do it correctly see how ur body reacts, then depending upon that u could do jogging before or afterwards.

p.s. if u like the ans plz make it ur best

should not be done at the same time
cuz pranayama is a practice of controling prana that is yr breath. however jogging won't alow u to do so.
best time for pranayama is early morning empty stomach.
for stress i would suggest you to meditate
try doing Vipassana..

Ideally you should do jogging and stretch exercises in the morning and that too in a open park. After doing this please take 30 minutes rest and then do your Pranayama.
