Purely non political question, I just wish to know what the reasoning behind this is.

Simple answer is might makes right. Those who have weapons of mass destruction can use that might to make sure that their allies can have them and their enemies do not. Take nuclear weapons for example. The countries that have them got together and created a nuclear non-proliferation treaty so that they are the only one with the big booms.

Now, this doesn't mean its fair and depending on your point of view, it might be a good thing that some countries don't have WMD. Just the way the world works.

No one should have the right to these bombs they not only kill people but make the area uninhabitable and dangerous. Cancer and mutations are caused by the after effects of these weapons. but like others are saying there are some crazy people in the world that is why some country's have them and some don't.

Countries of a peaceful nature have them as deterrants. When it comes to countries who have a history of 'bad behavior' or who give threats of wanting to wipe out other races, creeds, or entire nations, there should be every effort made to ensure that these whackos do not obtain the means to possibly carry out their threats. You may not be able to rid the world of all whacko tyrants, but we can help to keep those tyrants caged with less ability to carry out their 'evil' plans.

The same reason you don't let six year old kids play with real guns. They don't have the maturity to be trusted with them.

It makes no difference if it's a WMD or a 9MM pistol. A person killed by one is just as dead as someone killed by the other one.

Actually this a dumb question to be asked by someone as intelligent as yourself.

Because some nations are the good guys while others are the bad guys. I trust nukes in America's hands much more than I trust them in Norht Korea's or Iran's. Don't you agree?

If your'e talking about the United States it's because we are BETTER than the other nations, I just wish we would send in our bombers and use our WMD's to obliterate the middle east!

Only certain coutries can be trusted with them.

No country will disarm because we can not trust they truly will if we do.

It is a state of distrust between countries. Perhaps this is why countries want to diplomatically be in cooperation with each other.

I just wonder when our war on NKorea will commence.

That's a good question. Perhaps it's a "might equals right" issue. The more powerful the country, the more it has the right to have WMDs.
