...that a lot of people (me included) would never dream of buying the DVD at full price anyway? So they are not losing a sale to piracy at all. Or do they impound the DVDs and state that these are sales lost to piracy (lie).

It's like saying that every fake Rolex sold steals that sale away from the genuine article.

I also don't think they take into account that some people actually end up making a purchase due to piracy. We don't have decent radio stations in my town so I stumbled across a band on Napster back in the day. I downloaded a song and really liked it. I went out and bought the CD and have bought every CD that band has put out since.

They make obscene amounts of money in the first place and since tape was invented have always whinged on about how much money they are losing to "piracy" They made money with putting all their back catalouge onto CD and whinged about tape copying. Then came DVD to provide another medium to put their old stuff onto and STILL they complain about copying? Now we have Blu-Ray to put all the tripe of the years onto high definition video and guess what they are doing? They have invented Digital Rights Management in which they will control what we can and cannot watch and record. This means, that if the government lets them, they will have a spy in everybodys PC to let them know what we have on our hard disks. Legally, they will own our computers and all the information on them, will be able to control our listening and recording and there will be no legal way of ours to stop or regulate it. This is not some paranoid fantasy, it is what will happen if we let the entertainment industry have their way, I kid you not! Microsoft Vista will have DRM in it and will be able to regulate what we watch and download. Today, what is left of it, is anti DRM day. Pity no one noticed.
"If consumers even know there's a DRM, what it is, how it works, we have already failed" Peter Lee, Disney Corp.
"You don't know what you've got till its gone" Joni Mitchell.

The Entertainment Industry has enough money. There are celebrities with FOCKING ISLANDS for crying out loud! They will get as little from me as possible. With the exception of an occasional trip to the movie theaters, I spend nothing on on music or movies.

i don't think they do!! i wait for blockbuster to put movies on sale for like 4.99-6.99 before i buy them usually....it has to a spectualr pic like lotr, harry potter, or potc before i buy it retail...and i usually get those at midnight when they come out and pay like 2-5 dollars less than asked for price. now, it's been a long time since i downloaded movies or cd's because i don't have a burner anymore...but i have songs that i downloaded on my computer for my enjoyment while surfing....they should take things lilke that into account, we aren't all burning cd's. and to those who do-will you burn me some???

i'm also sick of artist like garth brooks whining that it's taking away from them- if he was so broke, he shouldn't have over spentthe 100+ million dollars he made. i have always been a fan of his, i think he's a great artist, but it turns out-he's not an artist anymore, but a pirate himself hungry for gold!!
