It sounds what a flat would probably sound like if I were driving with one except there is no flat.
Any ideas?

Shockey Monkey has some good ideas there.
If your car is rear wheel drive you might also check out the universal joints for the drive shaft and also the carrier bearings if the driveshaft is 2 pieces like a Volvo 240. The carrier bearing will be located near middle joint. If it is the carrier bearing you can tell it easily by jostling the driveshaft right at the bearing. If it can bang against the floor pan it needs to be replaced. It will also be loud (a ting-whizzz sound) constantly and it will bang against the bottom of the car on acceleration once it gets really bad. My dad and I had to fix this on the '85 Volvo 240 I was driving at the time.

If your car has 4 wheel disc brakes you could be hearing a warped rotor if it is making metallic scraping/scratching sounds.

Could be a number of things.
Check the tire pressure
Tourque the lug nuts
Have a mechanic check the ball joints an CV joint.
Have the wheel bearing checked.

If the knocking increases with speed, also look at the brakes.
If it RWD also have the rear diff checked.

it is a CV joint. the dry pitted joint is rubbing metal. when your axle turns, it puts the joint in a bind causing it to make noise. It will get progressively worse the longer you drive like that.

you can buy a remanufactured joint from NAPA, and have it put in just about anywhere. I wouldnt try to do this myself.

edit, nevermind this answer, I didnt catch the rear driver side part. there are no CV joints in the rear.

HAVE U CHECK UR LUGS ON THAT WHEEL? CHECK THE MOUNTS THAT CUSHIONS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, COULD B WORN OR BUSTED. THIS CAN CAUSE LOUD KNOCKING SOUND VIA VIBRATION, ESPECIALLY IF UR GOING FAST. IF ALL IS WELL, CHECK 4 LOOSE NUT OR BOLT THAT HOLDS THE ARM 2 THE WHEEL. PATIENCE WILL.SAVE MONEY IN UR POCKET. YAHWEH BLESSES.

wheel may be loosening up, check wheel-lugs. if equipped with McPherson's struts, top mount may have rusted or broken, seek authorized repair. bad or broken shock absorbers, muffler or tail pipe loose or broken, I would try not to use car until it is repaired!
try to look under car for hanging parts also, lots of luck :)
