It depends. Some women don't lose it till they are in a labor.

The mucus plug can often start to be expelled around 38 weeks gestational age. This only means that she may go into labor within a few days to a few weeks. When the cervix thins out more, she may get some pinkish mucus ("bloody show") which just means that she is preparing to go into labor. We cannot predict when the labor will start. Stripping of the membranes is a good way to try to start the process of labor. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. It is usually not done until 40 weeks.

Mine never came out until I was in labor with both pregnancies. Then again neither one of my children wanted to come out..they were both two weeks late. With the first I had to be induced 5 times and the second they just broke my water.

between 36 and 38 weeks. Usually when it does come out you have about a week or 2 before labor starts.
