Because they represent authority and teens will naturally rebel against authority figures to some degree. Part of growing up is asserting your independence.

Maybe it is because they are in a position of authority over you, and you resent that fact. I have to say that I never hated my scholteachers, so maybe it is a generation thing.

But I am sure that one day - especially if you have a successful career - you will look back and realise that at least one of your teachers was an inspiration to you, or at least motivated/encouraged you in some way.

Most teachers want to pass on their subject knowledge and help their students to succeed. It must make them feel so depressed when their students misbehave in class, show little interest in learning and generally waste those few precious years which give them the best stepping stone to success in life. Regrettably, many students throw away this chance - which is why so many end up as wasters and society's drop outs as adults.

A prison governor once told me that in his Category C prison (that's for the 'not so bad' criminals, I believe), out of his 400+ prisoners there were only about 5 prisoners with even the most basic school qualifications between them. Doesn't that tell you something?!

So I hope you'll go back to school and make a serious effort, if not to like, at least to respect your teachers - and work hard so that you make a good life for yourelf.

Student inputs:
Disdain for authority, self assertion ( normal or abnormal) acting out sorry life situations, a true understanding that the system is screwed up royal.

System inputs:
Teachers degraded from professionals to clock punching piece workers. Teachers given full responsibility for discipline with only bureaucratic lip service for backup. Teachers in denial.

Environmental inputs:
Teachers stressed with having to deal with social, medical, psychological, political, legal*, and ethnic problems dumped onto schools by a failed and polluted American system. *Parental and lawyer taps on educational deep pockets.

A lot of kids bring their parents views to school and many of those are anti-authority or just depressed to a dangerous level. Part of the "hatred" is simply that the American system is dead but hasn't dropped yet. Even people tend to attack and resent things that are in the death process.

Bottom line for hatred: There is no meaning in their lives or their environment. Another contributor is our commercial society where everything is expressed in seconds or ignored. The teacher is now expected by the base brain of many to be an entertainer. Hatred also comes from lack of moral roots.

Yours is a very good question. The interesting thing is why there should be such a question. I did not include poverty because it is an instrument of power and not a pure problem.

Bottom, bottom line: Lack of love. They threw love out of the schools years ago and the chickens are home to roost.

Do you speak up and stand up for your teachers when hatred is evident? Your voice may be the most important of all.

--Someone said teachers are not helping you to a career. Well they are. Their job is to prepare you to perpetuate the system and that is preping you for a career. You of course can take a different path amid the mess. Keep your sharp eye on life.

Teachers are not there to provide you with a career. A teacher's role is to provide children and young people with the necessary tools to enable them to obtain more knowledge, make their own considered decisions and choose their direction in life according to their ability.
I didn't particularly like my teachers, but I knew that they could start me on my way through life. Some of them would be appalled at the direction I took, but I'm still grateful - well, to most of them.

teachers are people just like anyone else so some are useless, some are nasty and some are criminals. If all your teachers were brilliant then you were very fortunate, I can only think of 3 or 4 who really had a positive effect on my life, but the ones who did have a positive effect render all the others inconsequential.

MOst teachers are pushed to teach what is required to pass the standardized testing, in order for the school to get more funding. No Child Left Behind my ***. There are some teachers that are wonderful, my daughter has been lucky to get great ones throughout her entire school career, shes in 3rd grade now, I keep preparing mysel for the one that is going to suck, and hate me, as I am unafraid to speak my mind.

I had some lovely teachers when I was at school and 34 years on I have still not forgotten them, teachers do get a bad press for been just too good at what they do, a good teacher is worth their weight in gold and will never be forgotten by anyone.

Because children don't care about careers, they get pocket money off their mum.

All children care about is having fun and they blame the teachers for having to sit in a stuffy classroom all day learning about the battle of hastings or the geometry of a triangle.

Teachers aren't hated universally. A lot of people don't like their teachers or a few of their teachers because they don't get a subject. THis causes them to feel frustrated and lash out at the one responsible for "making them feel stupid".

The other answers I've seen so far are ignorant and generalizing. "Teachers don't care" and such are not universal truths.

Because they are rubbish at what they do. Huge numbers of people leave school barely literate, totally innumerate, and socially disadvantaged. Get a grip!
