I promise you, this is a true story, okay? There's NO WAY I could make it up.

My wife worked in a hospital in Appalachia. And this woman who lived in the back woods (and I mean BACK woods) was rushed to the hospital due to complications her midwife couldn't handle. She underwent a C-Section, and delivered a baby girl. While she was recuperating in the wards she heard people on staff using this one word. She heard it several times and thought it the most beautiful word she'd ever heard, so she decided to give this name to her daughter. Before she left the hospital she had to fill out the information for the birth certificate, and on the line for "First Name" she wrote... "Placenta."

I Promise -- This actually happened. I remember when my wife came home and told me this. I laughed so hard I was crying... I mean, can you imagine going through life with a name like Placenta June?

"Placenta? Placenta June? Git your behind in for supper, gal?"

Oh Brother!

Thanks for reminding me of a great memory.

My daughter went to school with a girl named Cherry Candy. I think her parents already decided what her career was going to be with that name.

When I was in high school, we had a foreign exchange student whose name was pronounced "urine" but it was not spelled that way. And a friend of my daughter's name is Anu (pronounced uh new) but I think it's cool.
