I have 3 older girls - 11yr old twins, and a 12 yr old, and they don't know what to do for halloween. They have mentioned tric-or-treating, but feel they are probably too old. Any ideas? We also have a 1yr old... Thanks!

My daughter will be 13 this month and she still loves trick-or-treating. She wants us to allow her to go alone with her frinds and since we are in a good neighborhood that may be possible. also have a 2 year old so I will be bringing him out so what I have decided to do is let her go out ahead of us. Not too far but enough to let her get the feeling of being on her own. She will either be with friends or her 11 year old cousin, we don't know which yet. She could also go as a mother's helper with someone else with small kids. Some younger kids might not like their parents to hang around so close so she could go to the doors with the smaller ones while the moms and dads hang back a bit futher away than normal.
Or if she is really the big halloween type - many teens in our neighborhood dress up and scare some of the kids who approach their houses. As long as they are responsible and don't do it to the very little ones it is fun.
Kids this age also like halloween parties. They can dress up and eat some fun Halloween treats while watching spooky movies. Or bring her to a Haunted House if there is one in your area. We live near Salem, MA so it won't be long before we are bringing our daughter there to get her scary thrills.

I still got a costume went out trick-or-treating on Halloween at that age. I went until I was 15. Mostly because I love to dress up for Halloween, and still do at 27.

If they aren't really interested in going out, maybe have a Halloween party at your house for their close friends. Decorate the house with spiders, webs, skeletons, ghosts, or whatever they like. Then rent some Halloween movies that are age appropriate, and get some fun holiday snacks. Maybe get some pumpkins they can carve, or something else they can make.
The kids can still have the fun of dressing up, but they don't have to go out with all the little kids going door to door for candy.

I think I would plan some kind of either a halloween party for the girls and they could invite their friends over, or let them go trick or treating. I went all the way up until I was 14, and I have 5 sons ages 15,13,10,9,2 and I told my kids that they could go until they are 14 and then they are done. Halloween parties are lots of fun and they get to have their friends over for fun. You could make the house into a haunted house, bob for apples, play games, and have trick or treats at your house. Lots of candy, bobbing for apples, punch, etc.. You can make punch and put like fake fingers or spiders or something in it, and have scarey music playing, and even pick up a fog machine for about 10-20 dollars. Let them decide on what they may want to do, but do it soon, because if you are having a party they need invitations, and planning to do. put spider webbing all over the inside of the house. These are my suggestions.

11 and 12 are not too old. I would say that it probably should be your 12 year olds last year trick or treating though. My daughter is 12 and is going and so are all her friends.

If they really dont want to go, let them have a pizza halloween party after school from 5-8pm.

They aren't too old at all! They could go trick or treating with the one year old. Or let them go to /have a halloween party. Or when I was a teenager, I used to love going to a local haunted house each year. We also used to go on haunted hay rides, too. Or how about having them dress up and decorate your yard and give out candy to the younger kids, like put on a skit or something.

I'm 14 and I love trick-or-treating. I always go with friends then invite everyone back to my house for a sleep-over.
