Good effects of GW :
(1).Warming oceal'll lead to increased evaporation,i.e. more clouds. Greater the density of clouds, that would decrease incoming solar-radiation & thus helps in lowering temperature at Earth's surface.
(2).More clouds means more precipitation. That'll enlarge glaciers(in Antarctica,Greenland etc.) & apart from rising sea-level, more rainfallwould enhance growth of vegetation , crops & also improve arid regions.

N.B. :- As u know, Earth's surface has 3/4th. part consisting of water. So when GW'll result in melting of glaciers, then immediate rising of sea-level would coz terrific flood/overflow, then I think above benefits won't work .

Attributing a value to a natural process is senseless. The process will occur wether there is a "good" purpose or not.

It does serve a function in the geological scheme of things. Although this is complicated, the atmospheric CO2 blamed for global warming has natural cycles. This involves the sea water temperatures, coral, and the solubilty of CO2 in seawater. The coral will probably be doing what they do best (surviving) in another billion years, and man will be history.

Well, my parents house in syracuse might end up closer to the shoreline of something if water levels rise :P

Um whoever owns Greenland is going to find themselves with a lot more usable land than they previously had.

I'm fairly sure I've been reading that a northwest passage is now possible for much longer periods than before (less ice north of canada).

Also sure that I've read about Russia having some northern ports open up.

Not saying any of this outweighs the cons associated with global warming of course :P

GW is both man's fault as well as climatic conditions of the earth as it grows older.

I don;t think there is any good purpose really. The earth will only get hotter and hotter and we we will all eventully burn i guess. Everything should be balanced. if there is not balance then nothing works out the way we want it to. right?

I mean look at the colorado river, it serves 7 states with water, if the snow keeps melting because of GW, the rivers won't flow and those states will run of out water.

all it means is climate change some places will benefit ( rain in desert regions )

no one knows what will change or where it will change even the changes noted may be self correcting ( for example the polar ice melting could cause more moisture in the air and a long term redeposit of the ice through more snowfall ) the other real concern that seems to be agreed upon is rising sea levels which will be bad for people and tidal zone life forms

It keep the radical environmentalists busy and happy talking about it and trying to blame everything on a thing that probably does not exist.
