It is important to note that McAfee Virus Scan does not help with "spyware" infections. Spy Sheriff is nothing more than MORE spyware. By clicking on things that you don't know what they are, you compound the problem and make it much worse.

You need to download an anti-spyware program and start the cleaning process. If you have WindowsXP with Service Pack 2, I highly recommend Windows Defender : http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx It is Microsoft's anti-spyware program. It works very well.

Beyond all of that, and after you clean up the spyware problem, it also sounds like you may need to reinstall McAfee or re-subscribe for another year. If all else fails, you may consider reinstalling Windows as it sounds like your computer is pretty far gone already.

I asked the same question on Yahoo! Answers last week. I ended up downloading about 4 different security applications. I found that a combination of these was the only way to get rid of the trojan you have described. Try these free downloads:Windows Defender, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware SE Personal. Don't give in to threats to buy! Just continue to uninstall unworthy free security packages until one gets rid of your bug!(For Free)

Step 1. Go to www.bitdefender.com
Step 2. Find and run Scan Online - it will scan your computer for all kinds of viruses, spyware, trojans and other malware and then disinfect the files.
Step 3. Then download Bitdefender 8 Free Edition http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en--BitDefender-8-Free-Edition.html - it's free and one of the best free antivirus programs.
Step 4. Once installed, run full system scan.

P.S. It's important to run online virus scan first because if you download any antivirus program, it might get infected itself by viruses on your computer.

Good luck!

Welcome to the world of the "Microsoft STUPID TAX"! you can remotely, form a LiveCDrom, remove all those baddies. But, it is a recurring problem, everytime you go on the Internet using Microsplat!

Go and get spybot S&D...free.

Or, do like Microsoft has done on all their 45,000 computers at hotmail.com, microsoft.com, msn.com, and the Redmond campus, endorse Linux by running it on all 45,000 computers and servers, routers, and firewalls, game development emulators... even on the Xbox, Xbox 360!

FREE, so what is it you wouldn't like if Microsoft endorsed it?
http://pclinuxos.com runs in the CD as a LiveCDrom, doesn't touch the hard drive, and has Firefox.

If it works in your system to your enjoyment at 50X faster, then, you can hit the "install" button!!! If not, eject, reboot, and go on back to the Microsoft virus world.

First go to www.snapfiles.com to download spybots, its freeware, and ZoneAlarm, which is a free firewall.

Install both of these programs. The Spybots removes the spyware and the ZoneAlarm will protect you PC from future infrection.
