Find it hard to pick clothes that "match".

I am not sure if I am partially color blind or something, but sometimes I will pick stuff out and my girlfriend says that they do not go together.

This mostly happens with work clothes. I wear business casual at work, so I wear a lot of polos during the summer with Khakis which is pretty easy.

I run into problems when it gets colder out, and I need to pick shirts that match all different colors/shades of pants/slacks.

Are there any simple general rules for colors of shirts/pants/belts & shoes?

I do not get upset at my girlfriend for telling me that stuff does not match.

She is never nasty about it, she is just trying to help.

Although I don't care much about how I appear, I give presentations often, and I don't want to look like.........a......."Dufus" while I am speaking.

OK you men tend to stick to safe colors such as black which is not such a good idea, color oozes confidence.

Belt and shoes should always be the same color and material eg don t wear leather and crock arrrg lol

Careful of stripes, dont wear a striped shirt with a striped tie.

Depends on your color skin fair skin: warm colors such as browns etc
dark skin: cool colors blue green etc

tip- if your veins are green then you are a cool and warm person so beige would suit you too.

Good luck and if its too much let your girl do the shopping

Go to a quality men's store or men's department of a GOOD department store, and ask the salesperson for help. They will give good advice and demonstrate how to match up clothes, because they know that - if you are educated on good clothes - you will buy their product. So go get FREE advice from a competent salesperson at a GOOD store (take your girlfriend along, but tell her to BE QUIET - you want advice from the salesperson - she is there simply to listen and remember, NOT to offer he advice).

Also, watch the "Queer Eye" and "What Not To Wear" kind of shows. Ask your friends who DO dress well how THEY do it.

And tell your girlfriend you are doing this stuff, so that you can be a better person. She might be impressed.

Stick to neutral colors for your pants; such as black, navy, brown, beige and grey, as they go well with other colors. For shirts, you can go with lighter or brighter colors. If you wear dark pants, contrast with lighter shirts. If the pants are lighter, go with darker colors on top. Don't mix patterns together, such as plaids and stripes. Your belts and shoes don't have to necessarily match, but should be in the same color range, such as tan belt, and brown shoes, or black shoes with grey belt. You can also dress monochromatically, meaning all one color, but that is very hard to match exactly. You can wear black shoes with black pants, and do the same with browns. Your girlfriend can be a good source of information for you, since girls usually have more of a good eye for colors and what goes together. Take her advice, and you won't go wrong. Good luck!

Before I got married, I use to go up to the mannequin that has an entire outfit already matched and displayed on it.....would buy EVERYTHING on it....socks and all. That way, I knew I'd match.

Pathetic, but...hey, I'm honest.
Left to my own, I'd wear a t-shirt a jeans each day, but I have to "dress up" a bit for my job.

I too lack the clothing skills. Thank goodness my wife has them.

Socks match shoes
Shoes match belt
Pants match shirt
Don't mix bright colors with bright colors.
Dont' mix different designs like dots/stripes although sometimes you can if you're really good.
Keep browns and blacks seperate (no brown shirt with black pants)
Try that for awhile.

with working clothes:
belt and shoes colour should match;
socks of the colour of the pants, so there´s nothing calling attention;
white, sand ( light cream or natural) , light blue for shirts are colours that match almost everything;
black suits: with white shirt and white and red tie is very trendy;
dark grey suits: with light blue shirts
light grey suits: with light blue or lavander shirts
suits with shades of green. with natural or light yellow shirt/ tie:sth with green that matches or with a golden touch
good luck

Anything goes with black. Seriously though, why is she so judgmental? Do you critique her? Next time she say something about what you're wearing tell her that her curtains don't match her drapes. She'll be a bit confused.
