I am not an american. I live in the carribbean. I agree with you 150%.
I was fortuante enough to meet someone who opened my eyes to this reality and now i am more comfortable and feel more proud saying that i am orisa. That i follow the Life of Ifa from yoruba land where my ancestors were from. I am glad to know that you feel the same way.
I love Jesus because he is one of my ancestors as well. But he is not my lord and saviour. Don't need one. I have Olodumare and that is the most important thing. I have all the orisas and that is all i really need.
I am very happy that you feel that way.
Our way is the way it was many years before christianity and it worked fine. i will even go as far as to say that the world might have actually been a better place.
But the sad thing is that there are some nigerians who are going as far as to tell you that the traditional way is not acceptable because it is not in keeping with the laws of Jesus or as the will say, the word of Jesus Christ their God.
I met one and i was shock when he told me that. He even proceeded to make jokes about my belief telling me that i should go to church and here the word of God.
I said nothing. But again i am very happy that you feel this way.

I agree with you. I believe that the problem is that people fear what they don't understand. I also feel that most African Americans don't know enough about their heritage and some are afraid to learn, while others have been so indoctrinated with "slave mentality" that they don't want to know. I am an African American and I have heard some say that slavery isn't their history because they were born here in America. I also have suggested to most people to read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (I think I have his name right but he is the the same guy who wrote The Da Vinci Code), the book talks about how modern religion came about. It's a very good book. most people will say that it is fiction but if you research you'll find that a lot of the information in his book is available for anyone to find in the library.

You've made a valid point but, we live in a society that is based upon christianity, and as a black woman, I always get looked down upon when I say that I am not a believer in jc. I believe that he was a prophet, and a good man, but not the God I serve. I respect others religion, and I don't knock it, I'm just not trying to get with it.

Hey if i was inslaved, beaten and tought i wasn't good enough to learn to read or write i'd do some voodoo too, but not everyone is going to believe a certain religion just because the color of your skin. Now a days people are going to believe what they feel is right in their own eyes.

What do you imply black immigrants? Most Black-Americans moms and dads originated right here. Seeing as that is their local residence, African-American is an irrelevant identify. Most men and women most often recognize this although. Except Jesse Jackson who turns out to consider he is Jesus for the black race.

I think you have a good point here.
There is nothing wrong with traditional African believes, and in countries like South Africa, sangomas (witch doctors) can still legally trade.

something that we as black people should realize is that everything that we did as far as an heritage wasn't always a good thing.... You make a good point.... But lest not 4get, it was a African who first sold us out to the white man and than he himself was sold..... Black Magic is not for everybody..... We has a black nation needs to try and do better by our brothers and sisters.... That's my 2Cents.......
