In Stargate, and exist as pure energy?

Not out of our own free will. People can become enlightened like the Ancients but as for changing into energy, that is something out of our control and happens naturally when we die.

no 'cause Oma is fighting Anubis for eternity and she is the only ancient willing to help us lower life forms ascend. Or you could go and live with the monks in Tibet and study from them. Like in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon they believe the warrriors sorta ascend. So maybe.

i see no reason why you couldn't.
ascending is like "nirvana" in a way.
in the way that you don't reincarnate anymore.
you could look at that as ascension.
