but if the disease is caught in the foreskin then surely that prevented it from going in the penis?

Foreskin protects the penis glans from keratinization or hardening of the glans surface. There is no data supporting a foreskin would increase the chances of contracting STD'S. Its a Jewish custom to circumcise infants for religious purposes, and hospitals in general, and people in the USA believe a circumcised penis is cleaner and its less likely to get stds. This is absolutely false. Provided the person takes the necessary precautions and cleans itself regularly, there should be no problem. We are talking about uncircumcised males, not people with phymosis, which is when the foreskin is so tight that cant be retracted. Besides what people believe, foreskin resulting from circumcision is very much wanted as these skin grafts are rich in collagen and excellent for the treatment were skin regeneration is needed.

The foreskin doesn't help in preventing diseases, nor does it significantly increase the chance of getting them either. There are problems that one would only get because it's specific to the foreskin, but the opposite is also true, circumcised guys can have problems due to the way they were circumcised.

There are current studies that try to show that circumcision lowers HIV contraction rates. I don't believe this to be entirely accurate because then the HIV rate in the US should be lower than in most of Europe, which it isn't. Even if it were true, I feel that more should be devoted towards why and how HIV enters the body via the foreskin and finding ways to stop it there and applying it to other areas of entry, rather than just circumcising and potentially getting rid of what could be the source of something more effective and promising.

In any case, look at the two links below.

All the stuff about circumcision preventing disease is just myths - not a shred of truth. But foreskin doesn't really prevent disease either, except the hardening and desensitization of the glans.

Foreskin protects the penis from some injuries and greatly enhances sexual pleasure, but it's not a condom substitute. Circumcision is genital mutilation and should never be done unless some pathology makes it necessary. It's disgusting to mutilate babies!

Neither. You must clean under it every day, just like you clean your anus and other areas - but as long as you keep everything clean it won't smell, and doesn't harbor diseases.

The American Medical Association and the American Association of Paediatrics agree that routine circumcision is unnecessary.

The only studies that show a difference - men who have unprotected sex with HIV+ people; in those instances, there is a slightly increased risk of catching HIV+. This is not because the virus is 'trapped' but because the foreskin, like the head of the penis, is comprised of mucous membrane, not ordinary skin. This is very vascular, and also covered with nerve endings. Mucous membrane allows the HIV particles to pass into the blood.

Anyone having unprotected sex these days though runs the risk of contracting HIV and other infections.

It can increase the risk of infections such as yeast infrections which in turn can cause sores, as well as bladder infections.
As far as trapping in viruses such as HIV, that's just dumb. It used to be somthing doctors told all parents to do, but now they just say it's up to you there is no real reason to do it or not to other than Religion. Just make sure you clean yourself.
It may be a good idea to wash soon after sex so all the sticky stuff doesn't dry in there and stick it together. Ouch!. And make sure you pull it back when you pee.

It somewhat increases the chance of getting HIV because the virus is protected by the foreskin

If you keep your foreshin clean there won't be a problem at all. AFter you pee you make sure it's clean so that urine won't stay in there and cause bateria to breed.

Actually having a foreskin makes a man more sensitive and he can enjoy sex more than men who don't have it.

Prevent sexual fluids? What does that mean?

the foreskin makes cleaning & general hygiene more difficult and so tends to cause infections and health problems, even foreskin bonding to the rest of penis skin area.

I know of an adult who decided to get circumcised because of all the problems he had had in his lifetime with infections, and his teenage son also got it done, so I think the problems can sometimes be very severe.

I understand that in Africa where circumcision is rare that it increases the chance of infection with AIDS.
