I've been told by the safety director at the hospital where i work that they can, in fact they are banned from the entire facility. apparently, as the oil dissipates, it leaves behind a charcoal based residue. well, what happens when charcoal heats up? BBQ!! and this is true for all of the plug-in type air fresheners, so i have since stopped using completely. just not worth the risk to me.

Christmas trees cause fires.
Space heaters cause fires.
Lamps can cause fires.
Kitchen appliances can cause fires.
All of this is true to an extent.
I've not heard of the plug-ins causing fires though. And I wouldn't leave the Christmas tree or space heater unattended.

If you still want to have the slow release of an air freshener try the Glade Wisps. They're battery powered so you don't have to worry about plugging them in any where. I have them all over the house and they work awesome!
