The Grudge
The Ring

They're the only movies to actually scare me rather than just gross me out with gore but if you want some gore:

The Hills Have Eyes
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Saw 1 & 2

It's been SO LONG since I have seen a SCARY horror movie....that fairly new one about the girls in the cave looked pretty good. ....For me, Directing will make or break a scary movie....Like that jerky ,creepy walk in movies now is really cool...or a shaking camera.

Try to find the Japanese movie, "The Audition". Very disturbing. Also, "The Haunting", the version made in the 1960's -- the kind of movie you watch in bed with the sheet pulled up high so you can cover your eyes. An eerie movie.

there's an australian movie called 'wolf creek' based on a true story, it's chilling.

Then there's SAW written by a couple of aussie guys.

Nightmare on Elm street is an 80's pop culture classic, it had a few sequels, most of which are also worth a look.

WARNING: Don't watch any of those movies alone!
