Girls can be more cruel to each other than boys. And they're more emotional than boys. So why does it always seem to be boys who are committing these horrible acts of shooting people at these schools?

The Chicago Tribune recently released an article regarding the differences between males and females in acadamia. Having three boys I can see how the educational system is geared more toward the learning curve of females. Boys are not given the release that they require and yet are expected to learn at the same rate and on the same level as females. We are all taught that females mature more quickly than males but this knowledge has not been applied to support the males throughout their educational life.

This article went on to explain how it becomes a much greater issue when males reach puberty and very little to nothing is being done about it. Most teachers are females and therefore cater more to the female students because it is easier for them to relate. Peer pressures and razzing are also growing to match that of the adult societies outside of the realm of schools. When you put these issues together, males are more prone to act out than females and therefore, what you see in the schools is an image of what is going on the greater world at large.

It's not only boys. The first school shooting in the United States that I know of occurred in 1979 ... and it was a sixteen year old white girl that did the shooting. Brenda Spencer opened fire on an elementary school that was directly across the street from her house in San Carlos, a suburb of San Diego. She killed the prinicipal and the custodian and wounded several children.

When it was all over, the reason she gave, "I don't like Mondays." Which inspired a song of the same name by the Boomtown Rats.

this is generalizing boys and girls behavior too much. maybe boys are targeted by media to run to the physical violence where as girls are taught to go in another direction, but the truth is we are all human and have many of the same frustrations . dealing with confusion is a difficult thing for everybody.

as far as shooting up schools, it's taught to the masses by the media. and the more it's broadcast and celebrated the more the idea becomes acceptable to those unable to find realistic answers to a confusing situation.

i'm not saying media is bad. it's just irresponsible with what it chooses to glorify. maybe the news should be rated like movies or there should be a bigger focus on art , science, comedy and positive messages rather then violence, religion and drama.

the fifth answer you got seems to be one of the most soundest explanations...I had never heard of what he wrote, but it does make sense....Very tragic, recent and past events on that topic...I know this will tick some people off, but, I think violence in movies and TV, helps contribute to that. What I mean is, you watch a movie, OK there is violence in it...but when it shows the planning, the details, the equipment, and the act itself, its almost like a blueprint to carry it out of sorts...There are and have been some pretty weird stuff out there over the last 20+ years in relation to that; the fact our kids are kinda raising themselves, both or one parent has to work alot to keep up these days, the bullying that has always been around, but isn't solved with a punch in the mouth now, its solved with a handgun...think there are alot of contributing factors, that one day will escalate to something we haven't yet seen, and that is what worries me...then someone will do something about the violence....What are my grandchildren gonna' face.....scary...

No no longer each and every time. A healthy couple have 20% probability of conceiving in the adventure that they have sex on the perfect time of the month. So it really is not any longer that prime, in spite of the indisputable fact that you'll ok get pregnant your first time. Take a try in 2 weeks and GET ON birth control.

I think girls tend more toward psychological abuse in a lot of cases. And just because they aren't going on shooting sprees doesn't mean they can't be violent too, it just seems to take a different form for whatever reason.

Boys have more pent up emotions they feel disallowed to release, and if they are immature and allowed to go on being loners, unforced to face reality, they get to a certain age, usually one where they realized they should be doing something else their peer group is doing, and just blow up.

Girls are usually more intraverted, and do things to harm themselves. They sometimes cut, et cetera. They don't display the rage outward, but it is a more personal thing with them.

girls are more cruel and will show it. Boys will hold their anger and sometimes they have psychological problems that make them irrationally release that built up anger.
