I have been happily married for over 30 years. And yes, to the same woman. We have had many children and a lot of great memories. The most import thing to remember is that we are faithful to each other and we stand by our promise to love and honor each other for life. In short, love is a commitment and marriage is an outward sign of that commitment. It is a covenant between two people that should not be broken.

A lot of people have strong beliefs in both the church giving their blessing for their marriage and for their own partnerships, a lot of people get married because they feel pressurised by others, I got married because I just love my husband so much and I was honoured to be his wife and because I'm old fashioned I just couldn't do the living together thing.

People get tired of the dating scene...it is artificial and you never feel comfortable just being yourself...which you can when you are married.
Dating requires a lot of energy...as you get older and are more into the work scene...you don't have the time or energy to devote to dating.

1) People are naturally optimistic.
2) They find somebody they really like and marry them hoping that means they can keep them all to themselves forever.
Divorce remains pretty popular too, though...

it's a token of respect between two people
for me it wasn't about making a promise before 'god'. Don't believe in that. It was about my partner have enough respect for me to say it in a formal way.
