Certainly, it was. See the competition. It was for the first time that players were keen to perform, excel. The verbal duo between two senior players stands testimony of the intense competition that exists. Players were stressed to perform.
All credit to Greg for developing it. Now the inclusion in the team should not be taken for granted. Performance remains the criterion.
Some querries were also answered like Ganguly, Harbhajan as the best spinner, all three contenders for wicket keeping were equally matched, Munaf remains the best paceman, Tendulkar is still the best, the middle order slot (4, 5,6) are still keenly contested between Yuvraj, Kaif, Venu; Gautam Gambhir is the right choice for opening slot with Sehwag.
Tremendous achievement of the tournament.

I firmly believe that the concept of having an annual challenger trophy is a good one. This is how we got our first glimpses of Sehwag and others a few years back. Usually this tournament is for bringing new talent to the forefront and put them on show for the selectors. This time it was more to bring the team for the ICC champions trophy and eventually the world cup in to place. It also gives chances to players who have fallen of the radar, like Mongia and, of course, Ghanguly another chance to show whether they are still top flight players or not.
