Online usually stories are shorter, also old people generally dont like reading online, and is not so much fun i.e books online haven't taken off.

Some newspapers and magazine can now include electronic copies of their publications in their audited circulation figures, so rather than showing a decrease many are actually showing growth by using the internet to attract more readers.

They charge extra to run ads on their Web site. This offsets the small % of sales they might lose to people reading the newspaper only online.

Newspapers make their money in advertising. The advertisers get more for their money in on-line newspapers and the newspaper gets more exposure. Sounds, perhaps, like increased "circulation"?
