I think what you're asking is which language has the most words. I have heard in a couple of different places that English is supposed to have the most words. I suppose that we have more word possibilities because English descended from both Romance and Germanic languages. However, I think that any given native speaker of English probably only knows about the same number of words as any speaker of any other language.

The correct answer is that the question is meaningless in its general formulation in the strict sense that it contains words that are too vague in this context (“language” and “vocabulary” and “largest” and “have”). Therefore, although the grammatical form is that of a question, no question is really posed. BUT....
The LOGOS Dictionary contains 7,580,560 entries in 188 different languages -- everything from Abkhazian and Chechen to Yiddish and Zulu. It conveniently differentiates between French and French Canadian, and Portugese and Brazilian Portugese. And it even includes Latin and Old Greek.

China has the most amount of letters in their alphabe but I think that the English language probably has more words. We have often 2 or 3 three words that mean the same thing. Or the same word that means a different thing in a differnet context! It's baffling but I am proud of it.

I've heard Japanese is the hardest to learn, but I don't know if it has the most words.
(I think what's so confusing about Japanese is that many words are the same with different pronunciations for different meanings.)

English i would think. there are so many different meanings for the same word, it should take up some space.
