Aah, politics. This week, it's "sex scandals." Foley is compared to other cases. Every case is different, but many of the analogies drawn and distinctions made are just spin.
Here's my question: YOU are in charge of writing the rule governing "sexual conduct" of politicians and public officials. What should the rule be? Keep in mind every case in recent history - Clarence Thomas, Bill Clinton, Mark Foley, etc. etc. etc.
This has to be a rule YOU are willing to apply to judge EVERY future case that comes up, no matter what party the person in question belongs to.
I'm just so tired of people having to find out the person's political affiliation before they decide how to react. I'm sure I do it too, although I try not to.
Who will accept the challenge?
Thanks.

I think that we should be more selective about requirements for office. I think anything that any criminal conviction of any kind and you've lost your job before the gavel hits the bench. If you are accused of a criminal crime, reguardless of what it is, you are suspended from your seat and an appointee sits in your place until you clear your name or are convicted and you loose your job. Politicians need to be exemplary citizens again, held to a higher standard of what we want americans to be. True Statesmen and representatives

What is so hard?
A person who has a propensity for young boys is a pedophile! He should be charged! His access to kids should be removed, not ignored for years! That is what usually happens! That is why so many children are molested!
Anyone who has been told that there is a pedophile in their midst, is given examples and ignores them, is guilty of Failing to Report Child Abuse, which is a crime! Ask the Catholic Church what some of their consequences for failing to report pedophile priests?
The Republican leaders withheld the information for POLITICAL reasons so I don't have a damn bit of empathy for them! I don't care that they happen to be Republican! I would feel exactly the same about a Democrat!
I investigated child abuse for 16 years and many were sexual abuse! I never once asked whether they were Democrat or Republican because I really didn't give a S__t!
My issue is with those that defend pedophiles on the basis of their party affiliation! They are about as sick as the pedophiles and are the exact reason why more child sexual abuse is not prosecuted! Kid's know the aren't believed! They aren't STUPID!
Clarence Thomas was Sexual harassment with an adult female who apparently was not believed by the Republican Senate who wanted him appointed! I did not believe Clarence Thomas and is not of charachter to be on the US Supreme Court!
Clinton's affairs were with consenting adults, which really is not your business. It is also not a crime! Clinton did not tell the truth when asked about Molinsky in Court and he paid for it, including being disbarred!
Crimes should be treated as crimes! Peoples consensual sexual behavior, though morally wrong if married, with adults, and started when they were adults, should be given what weight you want at the polls! It certainly is not a crime! If it were. 1/2 of married Americans would be in prison!
Almost every single president in my lifetime, including Bush, has had extramarital affairs. JFK did, as did LBJ and Nixon! The only one I can recall who didn't was Jimmy Carter!

I think when any political figure is involved with a sex scandal no matter who they are or their affiliation, they are out of there. I don't want politians with no morals speaking for me on how to run this country. I know people are not perfect and the past is the past but if you do it while in public office, your career should be over.

First of all, regardless of political party, it is one thing to have consensual sexual relations while in office. It is quite another thing to behave in a sexual manner while corresponding with children. Let's be very clear about that. And I don't have one all-encompassing law or rule, but I believe that the rules about sexual conduct with minors should be the same across the board for males and females. That teacher in Florida (I think that's where she lives) should be in jail. That's about all I have to offer.

Foley is a pedophile who preyed on young men from a position of power, it is ludicrous to defend him and the analogies are pointless. it's time for the people to tell the spin doctors and the what about this other guy talk radio propagandists to shut up, we catch one we take care of it, we talk about or deal with other cases later, trying to deflect the heat from this away by comparing it to other scandals is shameful.

we are a bunch of animals what do you expect. people are people. but your right. in regards to public office holders. they should live by a higher standard. but we all make mistakes, each person should be judged as in individual. and we should try to forgive. but only to a point.
