just started playing this again... and three things please...
1: How do i get a 'gold' chocobo...
2: How to defeat the little* red man in the desert bit?
(you can only get to him by the plane, and he makes you go into the quicksand....)
*he grows huge when you start the battle....
3: How to land on the little secret island top right on world map?

from the fact that you're writing this here, i'm assuming you already know about walkthroughs, and don't want to accidently read too much info.
in this chocobo guide - http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/final_fantasy_vii_chocobo.txt - there isn't much that you can accidently read too much of.
it will tell you how to get the gold chocobo through breeding, which will allow you to get to the top right island to get the summon materia there, knights of the round

as for ruby weapon, well, you might want to get a guide for that. final attack/revive isn't necessary, but there are lots of strategies. you'll also find thousands of 12-15 year old kids that "know sure-fire ways to beat the weapons"

You have to breed chocobos to get the gold one and it will take you
along time to get. You have to breed a good female with a great male to get a blue using a carbo nut(you get it from a monster by Bone village looks like a Dino). The green is the opposite good male and great female. Breed the two together and you get black. Breed the Black with a wonderful using a Zeio Nut ( get from Goblins on a small island in the northeast) and you get the gold chocobo. The gold chocobo can get to the small island and it has the strongest summon in the game.

you can only get to the top island with a gold chocobo.
the boss in the desert is one of the "weapons" ruby i think. you have to have the final attack revive combo equipped. and search for final fantasy walkthroughs on google and you'll easily find a guide to breeding gold chocobo's
