Do you know that in response to the Pope's speech, Islamic fundamentalists in the Middle East are kidnapping, raping and killing young Christian women in revenge. What kind of society / culture encourages these atrocities?

What can we, as an international community, do to stop these crimes?

I wonder why the news is not talking about this. I have friends in the Middle East who are experiencing this terror right now.

P.S. I am not a Christian.

Islamic fundamentalists attack anyone that goes against their beliefs. Being a woman not attended by a man in public is enough of an excuse to rape her.
The logic is sick and twisted, and it is extremely ironic that the response to the Pope's reading of someone else's account of violence on the part of Muslim fundamentalists has triggered violent "protests".
The society and culture that encourages atrocities is the fundamentalist kind. The chosen doctrine is the "word of god" and anyone that disagrees with that is deemed less than human, or victims of these fundamentalists aren't victims at all, but a dangerous threat to their way of life that their god wants them to dispose of.
The only solution I can think of for this problem is to find common ground with other cultures and religions so we can work to stop this kind of thing together. Christians need to realize that all Muslims are not killers, and they are not all out to rape women or to commit other atrocities, and so on.

I don't know where you've heard this bit of news, but I follow the news PRETTY closely and I've not heard ANYTHING about that. There was only one senseless killing and that was of an innocent nun. That was an isolated incident and there have been NO RAPES or other killings related to Pope's speech. Just as we shouldn't blame all catholic priests for raping our innocent children, we can't blame an entire group of muslims for one killing. We have to be careful not to quote unreliable sources which create an escalation of anger. I think we would have had some Reuters or Associated Press stories if these rapes and killings were taking place.

No doubt it's further proof that Islam is the religion of peace. For how much longer must we tolerate these animals in our midst?
