It does depend on your location and suppliers, but here's what my girlfriend and I pay for a 2 bed flat in East London: (we also work mon-fri 9-6ish)

Electricity: £15 - £20
Gas: £15 - £20
Both provided through British Gas. Don't believe the hype from the other companies - they are not cheaper. The reason being that every other gas and elec provider, other than BG, make you pay a standing charge (around 30p per day) on top of whatever you use. So, while other providers may have cheaper tariffs (the cost per unit for gas and elec), they are actually ripping you off with the standing charge.

TV licence is £131.50 per year for a colour TV, so about £11 per month. Don't forget to factor in Sky or cable if you get it.

Water via Thames Water is £222 per year, or £18.50 per month, and that's a standard charge. Get a meter fitted if you can to only pay for what you use.

As others have pointed out, don't forget council tax at £100 per month on average.

Also your phone bill - BT charge about £10 per month line rental, regardless of if someone else provides your calls package or if you ever make a call, unless you have the line disconnected. And don't forget internet if you want it.

Hope that helps - I've had a good morning so am in a helpful mood.

Oh - one more thing: get your payments set up by direct debit where possible. It'll save you money and stop unpleasantly large bills arriving every quarter.

Set up direct debits for all the above. I would say 50 for gas and 30 for elec. Gas/Elec prices have gone through the roof just lately so you dont want to be faced with huge bills this Winter.
Water is around 12/month and TV licence the same.

I didn't see you specify that you were NOT in the US so I will give you our currency. I wouldn't know how to convert those others to the US equivalent.

Electric isnt really based on how much you are home if you are running the air or heat. You should actually just turn the ac up a little when you leave rather than turn it off because it will have to work harder to recool the apt when you turn it back on hours later.

Here are my bills in a two bedroom house and I havent been running the air as its nice here already.

Elec-$50
Gas-dont have
Water-$20
Cable (with high speed internet)-$105

Electric around £30-£50
Gas around £30 - £50
Water depends on where you live mine is £25
TV license around £11 per month

Dont forget about Council Tax, that will probably be over £100 a month, you need to look at your local Council website to find out how much.

You don't give enough information. Much of the costs are flexible depending on where you live. A good rule of thumb is that your rent should be about 25% of your gross income. If you follow that rule you should be able to pay your utility bills and TV bill.

Well I pay this:

Gas - £39 p/month
Electric - £29 p/month
Water (not on a meter) - £22.50 p/month
Licence, not got a working TV at the mo so no idea

Good luck, I live on my own but with 2 of you it should be a lot easier to manager and afford.
