I was trying to install a new hard drive. I turned it on and smelled burning wire. I shut it off. I checked the whole board to see if any chips burnt out because I have a little experience. Nothing was burnt. I'm thinking either power supply or bios battery? I turn the computer on and nothing comes up on the monitor and I hear this particular series of beeps. 1 beep (pause) 3 beeps (pause) 3 beeps (pause) 1 beep. I thought it was the memory chips too but I checked those out already. It wasn't them. Is there a way to test the power supply? What do you think could be the problem? Your help is appeciated to the fullest! Thank you.

Yeah i had this problem, it was an easy fix. I installed new RAM and it made a beeping noise. I removed the Ram and checked if it would boot up. Make sure everything is connected and that there is no dust in any sockets. You may have gone over the wattage on your power supply.

Well the beeps you hear are test codes from the computer's boot test upon starting.
Because you are not seeing anything on the screen this tells you that there is a failure with one of the main devices of the computer like the hard drive, or memory chips.

I would first check everything in the computer, memory, hard drive, processor fan, etc. and be sure that it is all securely connected. Restart and if you ge the same error I would check the processor.

Go back and check the processor or the processor fan. If you disconnected the fan and ran the computer the processor would have burned out. This could be the cause of the smell. If this is the cause I am very sorry but you need to purchase a new processor.

different beep codes represent a different problem.. if you have the original manual of the motherboard, it might have a list of these.. generally beep errors are when you have Memory (ram) errors or VGA (video card / monitor errors)

try removing and re seating the memory and the display / VGA card.

the hard drive has two main cables the power can't be wrong because the connector will not go in incorrectly.. and the data cable also has a tab so it won't go in incorrectly

if you can explain what you did in an email to lasa_g@yahoo.com

if you can hear the beeps, that means the power supply is working..

Below are 2 sites for you to check out. The first is Dell(you didn't say what your computer was), about the Beeps you are hearing. The second one is a Forum telling how to test the Power Supply. Be careful when working inside your computer. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Count the beeps. (If some are long and short, then figure out the pattern). Go the web site for the PCs manufacturer, look up the model, and search for "error codes" or "bios codes". Hopefully it will have the pattern listed and you will be able to see what the error is.

Hahah, definite. My sought after music with morse code might want to could be Dream Theater's "in the call Of God," in which Mike Portnoy encodes "eat my *** and balls." i like that guy. i believe the hidden music "eyeore" through Slipknot (no thumbs down, please, i'm mearly pointing out a actuality) has a backwards recording of the band scoffing at a porno movie of a guy crapping on and doing a lady. i imagine there's a Slayer music the position there's a backwards chant of "come connect us" or some thing on the starting up. except stupid fake backwards messages, floyds Empty areas is all i visit imagine of.

Did you connect it all correctly? Is the power button in the monitor yellow or green? If yellow then, check your hard drive and make sure the wires are plugged in properly (push it right in). You should contact a technician.

Here are the codes: http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

I cannot find your sequence, but the closest one seems to be:
1-3-3 You'll need to replace the motherboard.
