Exactly the same thing happened to us. you should be able to connect using the old modem if you have one. there should be a number ( on the password letter) she can call ( free) to get them to send the 'connect and go pack' we had to hang on 10 minutes but the pack was sent and arrived about 3 days later. If she needs technical help to connect without the pack there is a number ( also on the password letter) but that one is 10p a minute. We have regretted signing up with them because of the aggravation and 11 days without any internet connection at all. However we are now up and running and touch wood it seems OK at the moment.

Get an ADSL wireless router
get the ADSL filters for the phone points
Connect the computer to the router via the supplied network cable
Launch IE
look in the router manual for the Url of the router
its something like http://192.168.1.1
enter router default username (usually admin)
enter router default password (can be password admin, blank)
Set the SSID name to something meaningless like HADDOCK, do not set something like house13
Navigate to the WAN dialog box
enter the username supplied by talktalk
enter the password supplied by talktalk
click the apply button
Connect to the ADSL socket of the phone point
log out of the router
close and re-open IE.
thats the basics, the exact text varies with the type of router.
Notice:no software required!
Read the router manual carefully, sometimes there is a check box to ensure it connects to the outside world.
Once connection is established. Invoke some security.
If you are always connected to the router via a network cable turn the wireless off (some routers you can't)
Apply WPA encryption
apply MAC Address filtering.
Change the router password
If a lot of this is meaningless to you then you have some learning to do.

What s/w would you need ?
If you've got a router modem then this would be enough, you'll need to type in the username /password into the profiel for the router.
With an ADSL modem, just add the new h/w and then do an "add new connection" in NEtwork Conenctions. You'll be asked to select which modem, choose the ADSLL one, then it will prompt you for your User ID / Password
TalkTalk have been slow to react to the customer demand but once you are running it should be ok, some of my friends use it, they seem happy.
Its not for me though, i need a QoS gurantee.
