rupture is fairly common in car wrecks from high decel forces, or from penetrating wounds. Diagnosis would be by CT or ultrasound. It would certainly not be the sole injury present. Abd contents herniate into the chest cavity, pain and diff breathing would result.

Yes, it is a muscle attached to the inside of the rib cage. If it were injured, it would hurt a lot. Every time you breathe, the diaphragm has to expand and contract.

You can rupture the diaphragm with sever trauma to the abdomen, but usually the liver is torn too. If you are not in surgery, you probably did not rupture your diaphragm.

yes. You would have pain where diaphragm sits and it would hurt to breathe.
