If it happens as soon as it boots it sounds like more than just overheating, but if overheating is the problem, try cleaning the dust out of all the vents and the fan itself. If it still doesn't spin and there are no loose connections you may need a new fan. It may be that overheating has damaged the motherboard or processor, however.

Sounds like you need to replace a fan. If the laptop is under warranty, just contact the manufacturer and follow their instructions. If the laptop is out of warranty, do a search on the brand and part. e.g. "Dell 1160 fan" You'll get all sorts of parts manufacturer hits.
It is DANGEROUS to keep using a laptop without a fan.

Laptop parts are all integrated better listen to the guys who posted here leave the tinkering to the pro's or else it might just get worse through an untrained person.
Contact your vendor if you are still under the warranty period else try looking for a Service Center..

Easiest fix without opening the laptop case. Buy a laptop cooling pad.

Check the fan is plugged into the motherboard (need to open laptop), if it is replace with another one. Also check if there is power to the fan.
